Scripture Lesson:1 Kings 17:8–16
Preacher: N. Savage
Description: Reading 1 Kings 17:8–16 The poor widow at Zarephath expressed faith in the Lord by providing for the Lord's prophet. She was able to provide for Elijah because God enabled her to. Against the laws of nature, the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry. How? "In keeping with the word of the LORD spoken by Elijah" (v. 16). Nor does the word of the Lord fail when it comes to his promise of life through the death of Christ. (In the following verses, God graciously helps the widow when her faith is shaken at the death of her son. God raised him from the dead and gave the widow a renewed strength of faith—"Now I know..."). That is past today's reading, but the whole picture ties together the display of God's providence towards both Elijah and the widow. Speaker N.
