“May another take his place of leadership.” What a tremendous role Matthias would fill. While we may not hear much about him in Scripture, there is one thing we do know, he was: one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.” Matthias had witnessed something incredible. He saw the power and victory of Christ with his own eyes. He saw Christ conquer Satan and his temptations and now his task was to share that with God’s people. To share the news that this victory was for them! What an amazing task it is to bring that message of comfort, strength, and hope to believers, therefore, let us take up that task remembering that our victory through Christ is founded on his Holy Word. Let’s preach Christ’s victory.

Prayer/Day: Almighty God, you chose your faithful servant Matthias to be numbered among the Twelve. Grant that your Church, being delivered from false apostles, may always be taught and guided by faithful and true pastors; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
