Readings in the Ante-Nicene Fathers
Instructor: Private: James Korthals
Description:
This course will introduce the history and theology of the early patristic period, beginning immediately after the Apostolic Age down to the age of Constantine and the Council of Nicea (AD 325). The objective of the course is to provide an overview of the main writers of the pre-Nicene era via a selection of significant literary excerpts. Included in this list will be the Didache, Justin Martyr, Ignatius of Antioch, Tertullian, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandra, Origen, and Cyprian - to name a few. The instructor will introduce the author and his historical setting. Students will then read a selection from that writer for class discussion.
