Preaching the Word: Building on a Strong Foundation

Instructor: Jonathan Micheel

Description:
This course focuses on fundamentals of preaching that, like the foundation of a building, can be overlooked. Through directed reading, writing, and discussion, participants in the class will study several foundational concepts related to preaching the Word: the purpose of preaching (why we preach), the context of preaching (where and to whom we preach), and the person of the preacher (the relationships between God, preacher, and listeners). Additional questions related preaching, such as sermon delivery and the process of writing a sermon, will also be discussed. The aim of the course is to enable participants to articulate a theology of preaching and to refine and expand fundamental homiletical skills. This course is one of the core courses for the Preaching and Worship focus area.

During Spring Online 2025, this course runs for 8 weeks beginning on January 20, 2025.

Registration will be available in the Student Information System (SIS) beginning September 23, 2024 and close December 20, 2024.
