Maintaining a Lutheran Identity in a Postmodern World
Instructor: Paul Wendland
Description:
While postmodernism may have passed from the scene as a coherent philosophy, it has left behind ‘the postmodern effect’ a world where the only absolute is that everything is relative to tribe, culture, and one’s personal point of view. How do confessional Lutherans maintain their identity in such a pluralistic environment? In this course we not only explore the challenges of such a world, but ways of speaking the truth of love as we live in it, attempting to understand above all so that we can communicate clearly. We also look at the various hermeneutical lessons to be learned and challenges to be met in the new emphases on the reader, on biblical narrative, and on biblical rhetoric.
This course can be applied to either the New Testament or Pastoral Care focus area of the STM program.
