Luther and Education
Instructor: Joel Otto
Description:
The Lutheran Reformation was forged in the university as Luther studied and taught Scripture, and it was marked by key educational reforms. While many of these reforms were groundbreaking in the 16th century, how do they inform education in the church today? By examining one of Luther’s key writings on education, this course will seek to apply some of Luther’s education principles to Christian education in the 21st century. Special attention will be given to Luther’s catechisms and their applicability to the educational life of the congregation beyond confirmation class.
