Scripture Lesson:2 Chronicles 36:14-16, 19-23
Preacher: S. Marron
Description: Thursday, March 14 Reading 2 Chronicles 36:14-16, 19-23 “All the leaders of the priests and the people became more and more unfaithful.” God’s people were disobeying His commandments and defiling His own Temple. In the midst of their rebellion, God sent many prophets to Israel to call them to repentance. But they did not listen. Rather, they mocked God’s messengers, revealing the hardness of their hearts. As a consequence of their sins, the Temple was destroyed, Jerusalem was sacked, and the people were taken into exile in Babylon. Only after about seventy years would they be able to return to their homeland and rebuild. Babylon was eventually overtaken by Persia and the new king, Cyrus, became the instrument God used to decree freedom for His people. Upon Cyrus’ decree, the Israelites returned home and rebuilt. This salvation brought to them by God foreshadowed the salvation to come in Christ. There will be victory for God’s remnant who are preserved in faith. Speaker S.
