Scripture Lesson:Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23
Preacher: Prof. John Schuetze
Description: Monday, August 30 Reading Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23 (CW21) The Pharisees laid the burdens of their own man-made laws on others, seeking to be more secure in their own self-applied justification. Jesus would have none of it. Not only did he condemn them for placing their traditions above God’s Word, he also condemned their presupposition: that obedience to their laws made them “clean” in the eyes of God. With or without their traditions, they were unclean in God’s sight and in need of the gospel God supplied in his Son. Speaker Prof. Schuetze Hymns 465:1–3 – “Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken” 465:4 – “Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken” Musician Prof. Christie Prayer/Day Almighty God, your Son willingly endured the agony and shame of the cross for our redemption. Grant us courage to take up our cross daily and follow him wherever he leads; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
