The Age of Lutheran Orthodoxy

Instructor: Joel Otto

Description:
After the writing of the Formula of Concord, the next several generations of Lutherans saw the Evangelical Lutheran church to maturity in theology, worship, education and devotional life. The contributions of the late 16th and 17th century Lutheran theologians, pastors, hymnwriters, and musicians is still felt by Lutherans today who take orthodox Lutheran theology seriously. Through the study of key individuals of the so-called “Age of Lutheran Orthodoxy” and the reading of primary sources, especially devotional material, students will gain an appreciation for the expressions of truth that have been passed down from this important period of Lutheran history and perhaps see a model for ministry and church life.
