Scripture Lesson:2 Corinthians 7:8-13a
Preacher: Jesse Knox
Description: Friday – 2 Corinthians 7:8-13a Chapel readings so far this week have been very stern. The apostle Paul tells us the reason for and the end goal of preaching the law: that sinners be brought to godly sorrow and repentance. God desires a change in us. His Word cuts and then heals in order to bring about godly living. Like Paul, we don’t need to apologize for preaching the law. It is necessary—because repentance is necessary. (Notice how Paul did what Jesus described in the Gospel for the week: Digging around the tree and fertilizing as he preached the Word, hoping to find fruits of faith.) Sorrow which the law produces prepares the way for the healing of salvation only the gospel can give and the fruits of faith it produces.
