The Sermon in Worship: Liturgical Preaching
The sermon rarely stands alone in Lutheran Worship. On a typical Sunday or festival, we preach in a defined context and as part of a larger framework. Since the main services in our hymnals are based on the Christian liturgy, we often call the kind of preaching we do liturgical preaching.
Preaching from the Supplemental Lectionary
When lectionary preaching first became the norm among WELS preachers, men often followed the one-year lectionary in The Lutheran Hymnal. The Inter-Lutheran Commission on Worship three-year lectionary added more texts but had similar pros and cons as the historic series, especially with End Times preaching.
